Responsive Biomaterials Lab

Texas A&M University College of Engineering

Student

Caleb Crusco

Caleb is an M.S. student in Materials Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University, where he earned his B.S. in the same subject. He joined the Ware lab as an undergraduate student in 2024. His current research focuses on patterning liquid crystalline elastomer films to spatially control the director orientation.

Sahana Dhananjayan

Bio: My name is Sahana, and I am a PhD student in Biomedical Engineering at Texas A&M University. I have a bachelors degree in Neuroscience from the University of Texas at Dallas and joined the Ware lab in 2024. My current research focuses on utilizing liquid crystal elastomers for neural interface applications.

Manivannan Sivaperuman Kalairaj

Manivannan Sivaperuman Kalairaj is a Ph.D. student in Biomedical Engineering at Texas A&M University. He received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Anna University, India, and his M.S. in Smart Product Design from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Before joining Texas A&M University, Manivannan worked as an Application Engineer at Mason Industries Pte Ltd, Singapore, and as a Research Engineer at the National University of Singapore. His current research focuses on developing implantable engineered living materials for therapeutic applications.

Patience Oliveira

Patience joined the lab as a Ph.D. student in Fall 2025 after completing her B.S. in Biomedical Engineering at UT Austin. Her research interests lie at the intersection of biomaterials and tissue engineering. She is currently developing a magnetic dynamic sling for the treatment of urinary incontinence. Outside the lab, Patience is a mom of two who enjoys gardening and hiking.

Konstantinos Stamatis

Konstantinos Stamatis is a PhD student in the Materials Science and Engineering department at Texas A&M University. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the Department of Chemistry at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, and completed his Master of Science degree in a collaborative program between the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at the National Centre of Scientific Research ‘Demokritos’ and the Department of Chemistry at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. Konstantinos joined the Ware Lab and Sukhishvili Lab in August 2023. His research interests center on the development of innovative materials that combine Dynamic Polymer Networks with Liquid Crystals Elastomers, with the goal of creating stimuli-responsive materials for biomedical applications.

Yeh-Chia Tseng

Yeh-Chia Tseng joined the Ware Lab in May 2023 as a Ph.D. student in Biomedical Engineering. She received her master’s degree in Chemical and Materials Engineering from National Central University, Taiwan, and a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan. Her research is centered on utilizing shape-changing liquid crystalline polymers to create intracortical microelectrode arrays that can be deployed.
